City Corner column: Water restrictions still in place

Is the city of Victoria still under a water usage restriction? If so, when will the restriction be lifted?

Yes, city residents are still being urged to restrict their water usage as the drought and dry weather continues. Stage II of the City's Drought Contingency Plan was initiated in July, at which time the flow of the Guadalupe River had dropped below 300-cubic-feet per second.

The water usage restriction will be lifted when the flow of the Guadalupe River remains above 300-cubic-feet per second and returns to normal for 14 consecutive days. Until that time, residents are reminded of the following restrictions:

Watering the lawn with hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems is limited between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 8 p.m. and midnight. Residents can water their lawn at anytime using a hand-held hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle, a hand-held bucket or watering can of five gallons or less, or a drip irrigation system.

Washing any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane or other vehicle is prohibited except between the hours of 6 and 10 a.m. and between 6 and 10 p.m. using a hand-held bucket or hand held hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle. Vehicles can be done at any time at a commercial car wash or commercial service station,

Using water to fill, refill or add to any indoor or outdoor swimming pools, wading pools or Jacuzzi-type pools is prohibited except between the hours of 6 and 10 a.m. and between 8 p.m. and midnight.

Use of water from hydrants shall be limited to firefighting related activities or other activities necessary to maintain public health, safety and welfare.
