People: Kelly Clarkson assailed on Twitter after endorsing Ron Paul

Singer Kelly Clarkson scrambled Thursday to beat back a fire storm unleashed when a day earlier she tweeted her endorsement of Republican Ron Paul for president.

The first-season "American Idol" champion wrote, "I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last Republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote. Too bad he probably won't."

Fans roasted the singer, 29, for supporting a politician who has been accused of being racist and homophobic -- based on articles published in a Paul newsletter more than 20 years ago, which the candidate denies having written. One follower tweeted, "Wow, so a pop star endorses a lunatic racist, homophobe and anarchist? Kelly Clarkson, you need to look at Ron Paul closely."

The backlash prompted Clarkson to clarify her support for Paul.

"I am really sorry if I have offended anyone," she wrote. "Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women's rights, men's rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he's my favorite."

NASCAR'S KAHNE BACKPEDALS AFTER BREASTFEEDING COMMENT: Sounding off about breastfeeding has turned into nasty business for NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne.

The driver, 31, issued an apology on Facebook after venting his disgust for public breastfeeding via Twitter. As if that didn't have him in enough hot water, he called a female reader a "dumb (rhymes with witch)," prompting a second apology.

"I understand that my comments regarding breastfeeding posted on Twitter were offensive to some people. For that, I apologize. It was in no way my intention to offend any mother who chooses to breastfeed her child, or, for that matter, anyone who supports breast feeding children.

Man Pleads No Contest in Fatal Boating Accident on Black Creek ...

The father of one of two teens who died in a boating crash last February in Clay County has pled no contest to a charge of reckless boating. The man also pled guilty to an unrelated charge of DUI and could receive a year in jail when he is sentenced at the end of the month.

The man was operating the boat when it sped up and crashed into a low-lying tree branch on Black Creek. The son, a 17-year-old boy and his 15-year-old female friend were sitting on the front of the boat and died from catastrophic head, neck, and chest injuries. The father had gone to the back of the boat and was more than six feet from the controls as he checked the engine and fuel pump.

The father has since turned to alcohol and in June was arrested for drinking and driving, a misdemeanor. He had made his living as a boat mechanic but tells Channel 4 he has not been able to get near water since the accident that took his son’s life and the life of his son’s friend.

Our condolences go out to everyone involved following this tragedy. Members of both families showed up at Tuesday’s court hearing on August 2 to lend their support to the father who they feel has suffered enough. “He’s never going to get over this,” said one.

In such cases, a boating accident lawyer in Florida would always want to conduct its own investigation into a crash on the water to determine what the engine, steering mechanism, throttle, and damage to the vessel reveals. Farah & Farah has represented dozens of boat accident victims successfully to obtain compensation for their injuries and related losses.
