Earthquake Fast Facts
Mobile homes and homes not attached to their foundations are at particular risk during an earthquake.
Buildings with foundations resting on landfill and other unstable soils are at increased risk of damage.
Doorways are no stronger than any other part of the structure. During an earthquake, get under a sturdy piece of furniture and hold on. This will provide some protection from falling objects that can injure you during an earthquake.
If you are inside when the shaking starts …
Drop, cover and hold on. Move as little as possible.
If you are in bed, stay there, curl up and hold on. Protect your head with a pillow.
Stay away from windows to avoid being injured by shattered glass.
Stay indoors until the shaking stops and you are sure it is safe to exit. If you must leave the building after the shaking stops, use stairs rather than an elevator in case there are aftershocks, power outages or other damage.
Be aware that fire alarms and sprinkler systems frequently go off in buildings during an earthquake, even if there is no fire.
If you are outside when the shaking starts …
Find a clear spot and drop to the ground. Stay there until the shaking stops (away from buildings, power lines, trees, streetlights).
If you are in a vehicle, pull over to a clear location and stop. Avoid bridges, overpasses and power lines if possible. Stay inside with your seatbelt fastened until the shaking stops. Then, drive carefully, avoiding bridges and ramps that may have been damaged.
If a power line falls on your vehicle, do not get out. Wait for assistance.

Hi I am new here. And ask you this.
Hi. I am not sure I am exactly in the right spot for introducing myself here. I had been searching on the internet for local help with rent and utility assistance and I land here. Not exactly where I thought I would seek help. I am a 34 year old mother of 2 boys Aiden will be 8 December 3rd and Dylan will be 14 December 1. In the last year we have struggled alot. I cannot get state assistance as I am right over the income limits and unfortunately most of the agencies I have contacted for help require you to be on assistance in order to get their assistance. My one monthly check ( I work for the state and get paid one time a month) does not cover all our needs anymore. We moved in July to be closer to my parents and my childrens grandparents and my rent, utilities, car insurance all went sky rocketing because I came from a rural city to the bigger city and the check I was once able to manage is now not doing it. My parents have helped each month and I have become almost dependent on the help and they cannot help anymore as they have had their own set backs. I have used credit cards and the minimum balances are now becoming difficult to maintain paying. I have and continue to donate plasma two times per week for the help and don't mind helping others that do need my plasma. I've had to get dental work done, had some added unexpected expenses and now I am behind two months on the electric bill. You blink and you are behind it is that easy. I've done well leaving an abusive relationship April 2010 and making it from just about nothing and had very little help because I kept that secret because of guilt, shame, and embarrasment. While I no longer am afraid to say yes this happened to me and I have a voice and found that voice I am now struggling on my income. My son Aiden asked the other day, "Mom, don't you think it is about time you get a boyfriend". I asked him why and his reply was so that I am not alone anymore and have help with the bills.
