Aspiring Staten Island reality star accused in auto insurance fraud sweep
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A wannabe reality star from Arden Heights is accused of falsely reporting her leased luxury SUV stolen, even though she had already been forced to give it back to the Connecticut lawyer who had once agreed to fund her TV dreams.
Rebecca Kudryavsky, 27, of Krissa Court, was among four Staten Islanders arrested in an insurance fraud sweep, which involved probes into three separate alleged scams. The other schemes involve two Islanders whose car was found burning in the woods of Ocean Breeze, and another Island resident who ditched his car at Newark Liberty Airport and reported it stolen.
Ms. Kudryavsky, who hosts a Manhattan public access TV talent show called "Are You A Star or Just Bizarre," describes herself as a self-employed executive producer and fashion designer in her profiles on Facebook and LinkedIn.
She and the SUV’s legal owner — identified by sources as Dwight Renfrew, a 66-year-old patent lawyer from Greenwich — have recently been embroiled in a bruising legal battle that played out in the media last fall.
Renfrew had claimed in a letter he invested $580,000 in a reality show, "Managing James and Rebecca," that starred Ms. Kudryavsky and her boyfriend James Boccanfuso, to be produced by Eddie Murphy’s cousin, Ray Murphy Jr., according to published reports.
In the letter, Renfrew demanded the money back, claiming the money was "used fraudulently and were misappropriated," according to reports. He also sued Ms. Kudryavsky and Boccanfuso in federal court in Manhattan, but withdrew that suit last month, court records show.
Ms. Kudryavsky countered in a September New York Post article that Renfrew had a secret crush on her, and that when she and Boccanfuso got married in Las Vegas, he "went ballistic."
The alleged fraud scheme predates when the reality show dispute went public.
