Oregon's Cliff Harris to fight latest traffic citations
On a day Oregon coach Chip Kelly said he was “very disappointed” about Cliff Harris’ latest traffic violations, the embattled cornerback’s father said he sees reason enough to contest some of the charges.
Harris was suspended by Kelly on Monday evening several hours after being cited by Eugene police for driving with a suspended license, driving uninsured and failure to wear a seat belt. He missed practice Tuesday and could be in line to miss Saturday’s home game against Washington State, which would be the second game Harris missed this season because of a suspension stemming from traffic violations.
Harris missed the season opener against LSU after being pulled over for excessive speeding in June, which turned out to be only the latest in a long line of traffic offenses in California and Oregon since 2009. But Harris paid thousands of dollars in fines with help from his family, and his license is no longer suspended in California, said the player’s father, also Cliff Harris.
The elder Harris said the family has paperwork showing that the suspension was to be lifted in Oregon after a 60-day period, which has passed. Harris’ father also said the family can produce proof of insurance for the car Harris was driving Monday.
The family is seeking legal advice in hopes of addressing the charges of driving with a suspended license and driving uninsured.
“We’ll see how it plays out from there,” Harris’ father said.
In the meantime, Harris is serving an indefinite suspension. Kelly declined to comment on any other specifics, saying he was still gathering all the facts of the case.
Meanwhile, the seventh-ranked Oregon football team on Tuesday went about continuing its preparations for facing the Cougars, without Harris.

There is no question that most teens lack the experience to make them ideal drivers and decision makers behind the wheel, but that doesn't mean that parents have no choice but to "take their lumps" when it comes to teen drivers and accidents. Parents actually have a lot of power to help make sure that their teens learn how to be better drivers.
Be a Good Example
The first step in ensuring that your teen is a good, safe driver is to always be an example to them whether they are riding in a car with you or you are driving alone. If they hear about your tickets and traffic court dates, they might assume that they can ignore traffic laws and simply ask for forgiveness after the damage is done, if they even get caught. So make sure your driving is as stellar as you want your child's to be, at all times.
Safe Driver Discount
Most Colorado car insurance carriers offer good driver discounts for teens that stay accident free but it will also depend upon their driving record. It is important to avoid accidents, but you should also steer clear of speeding and reckless driving offenses, DUI or DWI convictions, and other infractions that can tarnish your record.
