One in three admit to being a passenger in a car while the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, QUINN-direct national survey finds

A national survey of 1,000 adults commissioned by QUINN-direct car insurance in Ireland has revealed that over a third (36%) of the Irish people was a passenger in a car where the driver was under the influence of drugs or of alcohol. Males, those aged 45 + living in Connaught and Ulster are more likely to be perpetrators. Those aged 35-44 and living in Dublin were less likely to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The investigation revealed that one in five people admit to driving a car under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Again, this figure is significantly higher in men (28%) and those aged over 45 (26%). Women (10%) and persons 16-24 years (7%) were less likely to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. People were more likely to Munster than any other province to driving under the influence (21%).

A large percentage of men (78%) say they have experienced the rage or anger behind the wheel and a significant percentage of women felt the same (64%). The incidence of rabies is highest among those aged 24 to 44, but those affected across the country, regardless of location.
